What Really Happened to Deliveroo Wine Tasting?

What happened to Deliveroo wine tasting? We take a look Decanteroo and why Wine Night In is (in our biased opinion) way, way better!
Deliveroo Wine Tasting at Home compared to Wine Night In

For a limited time, on Valentine’s Day, Deliveroo didn’t just drop off your curry. They sent a sommelier to your doorstep with several bottles of wine for an at-home wine tasting experience.

The promotion was called… Wait for it… Decanteroo.

But despite the great name, if you blinked you probably missed this temporary marketing stunt.

So, what exactly was Deliveroo’s doorstep sommelier service? And more importantly, can you still book a private wine tasting at home or are you out of luck?

Spoiler: yes you can book an at-home wine tasting experience with yours truly Wine Night In! You get more wine, more time. We’re also way better for larger parties and any occasion you can think of. So, what are you waiting for? Request a Wine Night In today.

Now, let’s uncork the full story! 🍾

What Was Deliveroo Wine Tasting Like?

Picture this. It’s Valentine’s Day evening. You’re ordering takeaway. But instead of just a delivery rider shoving a bag of luke warm food in your face, a professional sommelier would turn up instead.

Deliveroo’s sommelier would arrive with three Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference wines, matched to the takeaway meal you’d ordered. They would then guide you through a super short wine tasting experience – between fifteen and thirty minutes. And at the end, you got to keep a single bottle of your favourite.

The idea of Deliveroo’s doorstep sommelier wine tasting service was to turn a cosy night in into something genuinely special. We think that’s great!

But there were a few glaring problems with Deliveroo’s marketing stunt…

The Problem with Deliveroo Wine Tasting

The biggest problem with Deliveroo Wine Tasting was that there were only ever 24 spots available. That’s across three cities, by the way!

Not only that. But to even have a chance at getting one of these slots, you first had to register your interest on Eventbrite. Before racing to claim one of the free tickets when they went live on February 13th at 4pm.

The Decanteroo marketing campaign was first-come, first-served. And as you can imagine, the limited slots available vanished almost instantly.

But availability wasn’t the only issue. We may be biased but we think they were pretty stingy with the wine. Only three bottles to try and you only get to keep one!

With Wine Night In, you get at least six bottles and you keep all the leftovers. Not only do we match the wine selection to your whole occasion, we also work with local partners to find wine you won’t find in your supermarket.

Wine Night In is also at least a two-hour wine tasting experience compared to Deliveroo’s which was maybe a little too short and sweet!

What Happened to Deliveroo Wine Tasting at Home?

Deliveroo wine tasting was always meant to be a temporary thing. It was a one-off promotional stunt. It was never a permanent service. Wine Night In is available all year-round for any occasion – not just Valentine’s day!

So if you’re searching for Deliveroo wine tasting and hoping to book one for your next date night then we’ve got bad news for you. Sorry, but that ship has sailed. It’s a similar story with Waitrose wine tasting too. Maybe they’ll bring it back next Valentine’s day?

It was a marketing campaign designed to generate some buzz around Deliveroo’s grocery and alcohol delivery partnerships. Mission accomplished, maybe. But the service isn’t coming back anytime soon as far as we know. Not in a permanent way, at least.

That being said, if you’re looking for an at-home wine tasting experience we’re happy to tell you that you’re not out of luck.

You Can Do Better Than a 15-Minute Promo!

The whole point of Decanteroo was to make wine accessible. We think that’s spot on!

But a one-off Valentine’s gimmick with 24 spots nationwide isn’t going to solve that problem.

What people actually want is a proper wine tasting experience from the comfort of home. Something social and fun and memorable without any of the stuffyness or snobbyness you typically get with wine tasting.

You need someting that’s:

  • Available when you want it, not just one night a year
  • Actually educational, not just a quick marketing moment for the cameras
  • Tailored to what you like, not just whatever wines fitted the promotion
  • Properly paced, so you can learn and enjoy rather than rush through
  • Flexible around your plans, not dictated by Deliveroo’s delivery windows

How to Book a Proper At-Home Wine Tasting

Wine Night In is a wine tasting company built around teaching people about wine in their own homes. The focus is on creating a fun, social, and memorable evening for everyone – that includes the host!

Here’s what a dedicated at-home wine tasting experience looks like:

Tailored to you and your occasion. Rather than getting whatever wines fitted a promotion or paired a takeaway, at Wine Night In we pick the tasting themes that actually interests you. Want to explore different regions? Compare wine styles? Focus on a specific country? Figure out what you actually like? You get to choose! And we’ll help work out what you need it you don’t know what to ask for.

Two hours of wine tasting activities, games, and wine facts. Unlike Deliveroo’s wine tasting which was 30 minutes max, Wine Night In is two hours. And you can add extra time too if you need it.

Groups of between 4-16. Decanteroo was mainly focused on couples only. Wine Night In is available for anywhere from four to sixteen people – and we have bespoke packages available for even larger groups if you need it.

FAQs About Deliveroo Wine Tasting at Home

Is Deliveroo wine tasting still available?

No, unfortunately not. Deliveroo’s Decanteroo doorstep sommelier service was a limited Valentine’s Day promotion. It ran in 2024 and 2025. But it’s not a permanent service and there are no announced plans to bring it back.

How much did Deliveroo wine tasting cost?

The Decanteroo experience was completely free for the lucky few who secured a spot. Deliveroo even gave winners £40 credit to cover their meal. They also got to keep a single bottle of wine at the end of the tasting. But realistically, it was a marketing promotion rather than a paid service.

Which cities had Deliveroo wine tasting?

Decanteroo was only available in three UK cities. Those cities were London, Manchester, and Brighton. And at 24 spots total, that meant that each city had just 8 available spots. All in all, an extremely exclusive experience!

Can I book a doorstop sommelier through Deliveroo now?

No, there’s no option to book a sommelier through the Deliveroo app. The doorstep sommelier was a one-off Valentine’s promotion, not a permanent feature. If you’re looking for at-home wine tasting experiences, you’ll need to look at dedicated services like Wine Night In instead.

Why did Deliveroo stop the wine tasting service?

It never really stopped because it was never meant to be ongoing. Decanteroo was designed as a limited promotional event to generate buzz around Valentine’s Day and showcase Deliveroo’s alcohol delivery partnerships. There were only ever 24 sessions available across three cities. It was always meant to be exclusive and temporary.

Are there any alternatives to Deliveroo wine tasting?

Absolutely! If you loved the concept of having a professional wine tasting at home, Wine Night In offers exactly that. But Wine Night In is available year-round, not just one night a year. You get curated wine selections (which you won’t find in the supermarket), expert guidance, and the same fun, educational experience that made Decanteroo appealing.

Will Deliveroo bring back wine tasting in the future?

There’s been no official word from Deliveroo about bringing Decanteroo back for future occasions. While it’s possible they could revive it for another Valentine’s Day or special event, there are no confirmed plans. If you’re keen on at-home wine experiences, it’s best not to wait around hoping. Book a Wine Night In which is actually available now.

Private Wine Tasting Year-Round

Except the great thing about Wine Night In is that it’s available year-round. We have a way better range of wines you won’t find in your local supermarket. And we build the whole evening around your occasion.
