There’s a great story behind this wine. Legend has it that the original Marchese di Borgosole fled Sicily during the unification of Italy in the 19th century. After finding refuge in Puglia, the local people helped hide him from the authorities – and in gratitude he planted vineyards in their honour. Whether myth or truth, it’s exactly the kind of story you like to imagine when opening a bottle of classic southern Italian red.
This Salice Salentino Riserva is made from 100% Negroamaro, one of Puglia’s most iconic grape varieties. The wine spends two years ageing in barrel, which helps develop its depth and smooth texture while softening the bold character of the grape.
In the glass it’s rich and velvety, packed with flavours of plum, cherry and blackberry alongside savoury hints of oak, chocolate and a touch of leather. It’s a wine with real warmth and character, reflecting the sun-drenched vineyards of southern Italy.
